Gro Mambo will be making an appearance at the African American Family Conference on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Howard Gittis Student Center, 13th and Montgomery Streets, at Temple University in Philadelphia. The event will take place from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
The African American Family Conference (AAFC) is a free, two-day community event designed to provide answers, resources and guidance to African American families. The conference will address several issues facing diverse family units; dual and single parent households, co-parenting situations, grandparents raising grandchildren, foster parents and blended families. The conference embraces an environment where participants can contribute by sharing their experiences through communication and exchange of knowledge.
However, unlike other conferences, the African American Family Conference will take place in various cities across the country to produce and promote “After Care Programs” for families in the form of free workshops and seminars throughout the year. This concerted effort with agencies, programs and organizations will achieve stronger, sound family units which ultimately builds more cohesive communities, eliminating the number of violence, poverty and other negative social ills.
This conference is open to all family structures, cultures, religious, and diverse backgrounds.
Congratulations to Miss Felecia Danielle Nelson and Miss Tearay Monique Holmes for their recent completion of the Chrismation Rite of Passage! On March 29, 2008, the two sixteen-year-old young ladies completed their trials and their Formal Rite of Passage Ceremony was held, thus making history as being the third and fourth young adults to complete the Rite of Passage.
